These four pictures are from my series of thirty paintings embodying what I believe are the three stages of death: Before, Rot, and Memory, and how love intersects with that. All of my paintings display images intended to either by haunting, morbid, or calm, but not inherently sad. My painting of two skull-headed figures embracing represents Before, showing the love found on the brink of death. Another painting is an artistic interpretation of two fossils, a prehistoric mammal called Thrinaxodon, and its typical prey, a reptile called Broomistega, found fossilized in South Africa together, holding one another, representing the stage of Rot. My two paintings of rooms, one with ghosts, the others without, both represent Memory, and the illusion of life still found within abandoned houses, and how past love lives on within empty rooms.
