Future Tense: What Has (Not) Happened (Yet)
Oct 30 - Nov 30, 2020
The Drawing Room Annex
In the true spirit of a “Pop Up”, the Drawing Room has been given unexpected extended access to the Annex space on Mission street. Like most things these days in this surreal COVID world, access to space has been an unusual situation for artists and makers. The Annex closed officially in July, however, due to unforeseen circumstances, the opportunity to continue using the space has been extended. For how long, we are not certain, but we do know that we will have access at least though November 5th. For now, The Annex is ALIVE, allowing us to seize this unexpected opportunity to host another group exhibition that could last only a couple of weeks or possibly through November. We’re trying to live with and respond to this uncertainty, and we hope this call speaks to those artists that will be able to do the same.
The Drawing Room, in conjunction with Curated State, is hosting this open call to local, SF based artists for works directly related to the theme FUTURE TENSE: What Has (Not) Happened (Yet). The theme is not just about right now but rather about how right now will impact the days after the election. As we look to the coming weeks and months, we don’t know what the future holds or how it will impact and solidify our connections with race, social and environment in/equities, education, healthcare, COVID and in essence our FREEDOMS. Artists are invited to submit works or proposals for site specific works that address one’s place as an artist in this here and now. What matters to you most as an artist and touchstone to your communities and as an advocate for their sustainability? Help us fill this empty space with engaging, provocative, and relevant works of art -- bridging communities, sharing stories, and finding unity as we fight for our rights!
