WHAT WE DO

The Drawing Room, a storefront art studio and gallery, is a physical space and place of connection through art; the making and sharing of it. It is a conduit between artist and audience.

Active Curatorial Program:

Hosting the works of local, under-represented artists through thematic open calls for art and invites guest curators from various communities to co-curate each exhibition. The Gallery also partners with local organizations tied to the arts to create awareness and raise money.

Exhibition Program:

The Drawing Room hosts 8-10 month long exhibits each year. Participating artists are asked to invite a community partner related to that month’s theme to create awareness about that cause, and do donate a portion of proceeds to the organizations. By doing this we are sharing with our audience other efforts being help one another. Thus far our exhibits have partnered with over 7 different  community organizations, including Calle 24, Hospitality House, ArtSpan, Art for AIDS, Direct Action Farm Worker Fund, La Casa de las Madres, Kids&ART (Stanford Medical Ctr) and SFUSD.

Studio Program:

tDR is part art studio with a full time resident artist. It’s so important to have artists working within our neighborhoods, exposing the artist’s life and process, inviting people of all ages to embrace their human need for art.

Internship/understudy Program:

The Drawing Room and SFUSD with their "College & Career Readiness Program"giving students PAID work experience. At tDR we also have college UnderStudy students who also learn work experience and gain responsibility in taking on administrative tasks as well as hands on project based experience.
