WHAT WE DO

The Drawing Room, a storefront art studio and gallery, is a physical space and place of connection through art; the making and sharing of it. It is a conduit between artist and audience.

Active Curatorial Program:

Hosting the works of local, under-represented artists through thematic open calls for art allows us to host exhibitions centered around social and environmentally-focused issues and to include a growing and diverse collective or artists from the Bay Area. The Gallery also partners with local organizations tied to the arts to create awareness and raise money for their organizations and artists that they support. We activate dormant retails space to rejuvenate the main corridors of life in SF with arts experiences and exhibitions and to host the shows and work that we do. Fundraising efforts from our ART is LIGHT campaign support these efforts to illuminate dormant spaces and bring life and light back into our community corridors.

Exhibition Program:

The Drawing Room hosts 8-10 month long exhibits each year in both our main gallery on Clement street and also in our ANNEX space(s) where ever they may be. Currently we are working out of 599 Valencia and finding ways to keep our place in this location. We work to share our audiences with other efforts being done locally help one another. Thus far our exhibits have partnered many different  community organizations, including SF SkateClub, Hospitality House, ArtSpan, Art for AIDS, Direct Action Farm Worker Fund, La Casa de las Madres, Kids&ART (Stanford Medical Ctr), DrawBridge, First Exposures, BreakThrough, SFUSD, the de Young and the newly formed Mission Vibrant. We are also active participant in the Clement Street ArtWalk and Merchants association as well as working to

Internship/understudy Program:

The Drawing Room and SFUSD with their "College & Career Readiness Program"giving students PAID work experience. At tDR we also have college UnderStudy students who also learn work experience and gain responsibility in taking on administrative tasks as well as hands on project based experience.
